The gold was panned by my grandfather
Dear Julie,
I am sorry that it has taken us so long to email you and to say how pleased we are with the wonderful ring that you made Nick for our wedding. We are so pleased with it and the story that is behind it; the gold was panned by my grandfather, an Officer in the Royal Engineers, in 1952 in Canada. He was on ‘R&R’ for a few days and went with another soldier up to a place called Squaw Creek. There he spoke to the man who owned the claim who said that he could go up and see if there was anything left in the sluice box as they hadn’t cleaned it out after they had finished mining that previous autumn. The soldier he was with pulled out a large nugget, my grandfather was slightly less successful but still managed to get almost 7 grams. Some 48 years later we bought the gold to you, in the same old vaseline pot that he had kept it in all these years, and asked you to turn it into a ring for us, which you did beautifully. Thank you also for sending us all the photographs of you melting the gold down and going through the processes of turning it into a ring.
Please let me know if you would like any more photographs – at the moment I am struggling to find a photo of us in our wedding gear with the ring showing – but hopefully you can see it in the one of us cutting the cake.

Leap of faith
We wanted to thank you for the amazing remaking of my wedding rings. I am very sentimental about my rings , and it was a leap of faith to have them remade in white gold. Keeping all my original stones and design with a replacement sapphire meant the essence of the originals was kept, and displays your skill as an experienced jeweller!
